Material Testing of Elsatomers in Mineral Oils
Test samples of elastomer are fixed on a sample holder, which is then put into a reactor filled with used mineral oil. In order to simulate the oprating life, the reactor is heated up for a certain period of time. Samples can be tested in the liquid phase and in the gas phase, even at the same time. When testing with mixtures or particles, Berghof recomends a reactor configuration with stirring. After the heating process, usually the elastomers have to pass a tensile test.
